Dr. Khalid Javaid Chowdhry

Chairman

Soon after his graduation in 1960 from King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Dr. Chowdhry was offered a job as a Medical Officer with the Government of Kuwait. He worked in various government hospitals & clinics for 3 years and subsequently established a private Medical Healthcare Center and continued working as a private medical consultant in Kuwait from 1963 to 1986.

In between he went to London in 1976 for mid-career higher education and obtained specializations in Tropical Medicine from the University of Liverpool, UK in 1976 & Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Ireland in 1977. He also attended Aviation Medicine School at Farnborough, UK & was awarded Diploma in Aviation Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, UK in 1981 and Honorary Fellowship by the American College of International Physicians, USA in 1986.

Returning back to his native country Pakistan in 1986, he changed his career by embarking upon a journey in the unknown & challenging world of entrepreneurship by launching himself as an Entrepreneur & Industrialist.

His entrepreneurial spirit motivated him to accept new challenges by establishing a pioneering and trend-setting pharmaceutical industrial venture known as Medipak Ltd., to successfully undertake local manufacturing of Life Saving Infusion Therapy & Dialysis Products for the first time ever in Pakistan.  The success of the venture encouraged him to establish other challenging ventures notable among them – as one of the Founding Members of Prime Commercial Bank which grew steadily to establish 65 branches all over Pakistan and was later sold to ABN Amro Bank in 2006, Founding Director Paramount Leasing Company, Chairman & CEO Prime Building Materials Ltd., President Uniplan Trade International (Pvt) Ltd. Managing Partner Medivision Healthcare Center and recently as Chairman & CEO Medigen Biotech (Pvt) Ltd.

He was elected to the prestigious position of President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry – the premier chamber of business community and industrialists in Pakistan.  He was also elected to the Central Executive Committee of All Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) and later in the year 2001 – 2002 was elected to the position of Chairman PPMA.

The Federation of Asian Biotechnology Association (FABA) which has been created to bolster relations and cooperation amongst Asian biotech businesses & scientists – in 2005, elected him as Chairperson – FABA Pakistan chapter and most recently in 2012 he has been elected as President of the Federation itself.

In recognition of his expertise and standing in the business community, the Govt. of Pakistan appointed him as a representative of the private sector on the Board of Governors of various organizations and served on the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), as a member of National Commissions for Biotechnologgy & Nanotechnology, as a Council Member of Management Committee of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) and as a member of governing board on the Policy Board of the Pakistan Intellectual Property Rights Organization (PIPRO) – IPO, Pakistan.

A firm believer in giving back to society, Dr. Chowdhry has served on the Board of Trustees of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global Inc. – a Silicon Valley, USA based organization that is acknowledged as the largest non-profit organization fostering entrepreneurship globally with over 50 chapters all around the globe.  Prior to this he had served as President TiE Lahore Chapter for 3 years.

Dr. Chowdhry, since 2007, has devoted much of his time to educational endeavors and has been acting as the Chairman of Board of Governors, American International School System (AISS), Lahore-Pakistan Campus.

Dr. Chowdhry is also involved in various charitable causes and acts as President of the M.D Chowdhry Foundation
